This review is somewhat skewed...the real genius here is John Barry, who penned most of these songs. But I didn’t grow up with the individual Original Soundtracks. I grew up with this one. Each song is delicious, some quiet like “The Golden Horn”, but most are bombastic like “Goldfinger”, “Girl Trouble” and my favorite “Dawn Raid on Fort Knox”. “Dawn” is so fun, creating such tension with the juxtaposition of quiet and brash segments. I loved it by age 3. (Pardon the personal story, but I even took it in to pre-school in 1974 to play for “music time”, but my teacher was put-off by the insufficiently clothed women on the cover and would not play it!) In later years I picked up the original soundtracks to “Dr. No” and “Goldfinger”, but having grown up with these versions I actually preferred them to the originals. (Blasphemy, I know).

I know no history of the Roland Shaw Orchestra, but it appears he was putting out “cheap” remakes of the originals...as a result, they are probably not really valued and I regret that I may never see this album (or its contents) released on CD. Alas, back to my scratchy vinyl....

Edited in 2015 to add that all of the tracks from this are finally available on some CD reissues on the Poker label. I found one that has every song on this album, with the exception of “Leila Dance”, darnit.
